Ten years ago, if you wanted to play board games with friends, you probably did it at someone's kitchen table. Today, in many cities, you can go to a café that in them. For a small fee, customers can choose from hundreds of games, order a drink and play for as long as they like. Most of these cafés employ staff whose job is to explain the rules, which is a great help when you are faced with a game you have never of. So why have these places become so popular? Some owners say it is a of people spending too much time looking at screens. Board games people together in a way that phones do not. Others point out that board games appeal to people of all ages, so families, students and colleagues can all part. Of course, not everyone is a fan. Some people find the games too complicated, and a few complain that a single game can on for hours. But most customers seem to agree that it is a good way to spend an evening. 'It's cheaper than going to a restaurant,' says one regular, 'and you to know people properly.' Perhaps that is the real of their success.
